Career History 1971 to Present...
ASCAP composer and musician Gary Boggess has 27 years of professional experience in music and many of its related disciplines. He attended Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music with a major in music composition. In 1972 he co-formed a jazz/rock group named I Don't Care. Their album release titled "Ask Anyone," on United Artist's Buddah label, received a mixed review in the October '76 Rolling Stone magazine. After opening for national acts like Bruce Springsteen, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Dr. Hook, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Glass Harp, The James Gang, Spirit, Frank Zappa and Larry Coryell, I.D.C. unraveled and Boggess pursued his growing interest in electronic music. Seeing the need of a facility capable of addressing the complex requirements of such music, he designed and built his studio Music Island Digital in 1976... now Boggess Music & Sound.

Since, Gary has composed over 60 hours of music for nearly every medium. In 1981, Boggess served as resident composer at Kent State University for a period of two years. During this time Boggess began producing jingles and soundtracks for companies such as GM, American Greetings, B.F. Goodrich, PPG Industries, Babcock and Wilcox, Goodyear and documentary films produced by The Ohio Department of Education, National Geographic, and NASA. Since 1976, he has been composer and sound designer for over 45 theatrical productions, by Kent State's University Theatre and Summer Stock Programs, The Youngstown Playhouse, Trumbull New Theatre, The Cleveland Playhouse, Cleveland State University Theatre and The Lincoln Ford Centre in N.Y.C. and many others.

Technical & Artistic Breakthrough In 1991
In 1991, Gary was commissioned by the city of Warren, Ohio, with the support of the Ohio Arts Council and the Fine Arts Council Trumbull, to compose the orchestral work "Millennium," for the city's New Year's Eve Festival of the Arts Opening Night '90 program. The work was well received by the people of Warren and led Boggess to compile dance works created for Johnson's "SegWay" with "Millennium," for Boggess' 1992 album release titled "Millennium And Five Dances."

"Millennium" was a breakthrough piece. It was the first time Boggess was able to achieve and realize his lifetime goal of producing a large scale orchestral work, using electronic music instruments. Newly acquired MIDI and orchestral sound modules enabled him to create the dense orchestration and musical performance values that he had only dreamed of, since 1972.

"Millennium And Five Dances" premiered on PBS radio affiliate WYSU in January of '92 and was highly praised by Wendy Carlos, composer of film scores for "A Clockwork Orange," "The Shining" and "Tron." Her Switched On Bach album series on C.B.S. established the Moog synthesizer as a viable instrument.
